Description

Vintage Elizabeth Arden Treasures of the Pharaohs Sacred Cat Porcelain Pomander Blue Grass Japan

Elizabeth Arden Treasures of the Pharaohs Sacred Cat porcelain Pomander or fragrance container, made in Japan and originally issued as part of the celebrated Egyptian Revival vanity collection introduced during the early 1980s. This small sculptural piece combines decorative porcelain design with Elizabeth Arden’s Blue Grass fragranced pellets, creating an object that sits somewhere between vanity collectible, perfume presentation, and Egyptian-inspired decorative art.

The sleeping cat form recalls the sacred cats of ancient Egypt, long associated with protection, grace, and domestic ritual. Its compact scale and curled pose give the piece a softer and more intimate presence than many of the larger Treasures of the Pharaohs forms, while the colorful geometric decoration reflects the bold Egyptian Revival styling popular during the period.

This example retains its original box and the original unopened Blue Grass fragranced pellets packet, an increasingly uncommon survival for these vanity presentation pieces.

Elizabeth Arden and the Treasures of the Pharaohs Collection

During the late 1970s and early 1980s, renewed fascination with ancient Egypt inspired a wave of Egyptian Revival design across fashion, interiors, cosmetics, and decorative arts. Elizabeth Arden responded with the Treasures of the Pharaohs collection, a series of porcelain vanity objects produced in Japan and decorated with stylized Egyptian motifs in vivid enamel colors and gilt accents.

Unlike ordinary cosmetic packaging, these objects were designed to function as lasting decorative keepsakes after the fragrance products had been used. Today they are collected for their sculptural quality, Memphis-era color palette, and distinctive blend of Art Deco and Egyptian Revival influences.

Design Details

The figure is modeled as a resting sacred cat with stylized Egyptian-inspired decoration in cobalt blue, turquoise, green, coral red, and gold over glossy white porcelain. The removable stopper-style opening underneath originally held fragranced pellets.

The compact size makes it ideal for display within vanity collections, perfume collections, Egyptian Revival interiors, or cat-themed decorative groupings.

Condition

Excellent unused vintage condition with no visible cracks, chips, or repairs observed. The enamel decoration remains bright and well preserved with minimal wear consistent with careful storage.

Includes the original Elizabeth Arden box and original unopened 1/2 oz Blue Grass fragranced pellets packet.
