Description
Vintage Wedgwood Primrose Jasperware Plate
This small vintage Wedgwood Primrose Jasperware plate features delicate white flowering branches applied against a soft yellow ground. Measuring approximately 4 inches in diameter, the gently dished form creates a simple background for the raised botanical decoration.
The asymmetrical placement of the flowering branches gives the small piece an especially graceful appearance. Its restrained palette and crisp white relief are characteristic of Wedgwood’s decorative Jasper tradition.
Wedgwood Jasperware
Wedgwood perfected Jasperware in 1774 after thousands of experiments. The dense stoneware body accepts color throughout the material and provides a distinctive matte surface for contrasting applied relief decoration. More than 250 years later, Wedgwood continues to produce Jasperware in England. Wedgwood
This example uses the pale yellow color commonly known as Primrose, with white floral ornament providing the contrast.
